As your engine turns, the camshaft pushes your breaker points open, which creates a high voltage induction in your ignition coil. This high voltage power runs through your spark plug igniting your engine. Residual electricity in your ignition coil’s primary circuit is absorbed by the condenser.

Now that we have a basic idea of electrical theory, let’s examine how it is all wired together. The example below illustrates wiring for an engine that uses battery ignition and a stator charging system.

The float should be perfectly parallel to the upper carburetor body or sit slightly lower than level. This keeps fuel below where the two halves of the atmospheric vent meet. Also make sure your carburetor halves are not warped when the bolts are tightened down. If there is a visible gap between the two halves of the carburetor at the atmospheric vent; sand down the two halves until the gap is gone.

These conductors must be yellow throughout the entire circuit, including wiring in the control panel and the external field wiring. • White or natural gray represents a grounded circuit conductor. • White with blue stripe represents a grounded DC current-carrying circuit conductor. International and European standards require you to use light blue for the neutral conductor. • White with yellow stripe represents grounded AC current-carrying control circuit conductors that remain energized when the disconnecting means is in the OFF position. For additional circuits powered from different sources that remain energized when the main disconnecting means is in the OFF position, you must use striping colors other than green, yellow or blue to uniquely identify the grounded conductors.

However, an exception allows you to install a splice in leads attached to electrical equipment, such as motors and solenoids.

But when they power 4 wheeled machines such as Lawn and Garden Tractors, Skidsteers, and Road Grading Machines, you want that weight to aid in delivering that power to the ground.

After you installed it you still don’t have spark. What happened? We will go into this common problem later in the article, but for now remember never make assumptions. Always look for evidence that suggests a cause. Evidence comes in many forms such as smoke coming from your engine, metal particles in your oil, and oil leaks from your transmission.
