Line diagrams, also called “schematic” or “elementary” diagrams, show the circuits which form the basic operation of the controller. They do not indicate the physical relationships of the various components in the controller. They are an ideal means for troubleshooting a circuit.

Dashed lines are drawn between the symbols to denote which switches control specific lights or receptacles. There are quite a few symbols used to represent the devices used in home electrical wiring but some of them are very similar, so care should be used when working with them!

To measure AC voltage for example on your engine’s stator, you first locate the two wires coming from the stator. Turn your DMM to AC Voltage. Place the red probe onto one of the wires, and the black probe on the other wire. You should read about 24 to 30 VAC.

For example we can determine if an ignition coil is healthy or not by measuring the resistance of its windings. To measure resistance, set your meter to Ω ohms resistance. If you need to select a range, select the smallest range normally 200 ohms. Place the red probe onto one of the small terminals of the ignition coil, and the black one on the remaining small terminal. Your resistance will then display. A normal ignition coil should read about 3.5 to 4 ohms. If your meter reads a much higher resistance it means your ignition coil may have a short and is faulty.

When electricity was originally used for practical purposes, it was used for communication in the form of the electric telegraph and the telephone. Petroleum and paraffin lamps were still lighting homes until the late 1800s, when Thomas Edison developed the light bulb.

By Linda Cerise. Electrical Wiring. Published at Tuesday, January 30th 2018, 08:35:58 AM. Wires and cables (conductors) are insulated and protected by a variety of materials (insulators) each one having its own particular properties. The type of material used will be determined by the designer who will take into account the environment in which a control panel or installation is expected to operate as well as the application of individual wires within the panel.
By Linda Cerise. Electrical Wiring. Published at Tuesday, January 30th 2018, 08:20:49 AM. The combined cross-sectional area of all conductors and cables is not permitted to exceed 50% of the interior cross-sectional area of the raceway. The fill provisions are based on the actual dimensions of the conductors or cables used.
