Power then runs from the “A” or accessory terminal to a STSP (Single Throw Single Position) switch. This switch is wired in-series and is a way to connect and disconnect power to your accessory such as your headlights. Your headlights are then wired to the STSP light switch and are wired in parallel to each other. This means two wires will come from your light switch and connect to each headlight individually. Two ground wires will also come off each headlight individually and connect to the common ground. If you were to wire your headlights in series each headlight will only use 6 volts rather than 12 and the brightness will be diminished.

When electricity was originally used for practical purposes, it was used for communication in the form of the electric telegraph and the telephone. Petroleum and paraffin lamps were still lighting homes until the late 1800s, when Thomas Edison developed the light bulb.

The combined cross-sectional area of all conductors and cables is not permitted to exceed 50% of the interior cross-sectional area of the raceway. The fill provisions are based on the actual dimensions of the conductors or cables used.

Wires and cables (conductors) are insulated and protected by a variety of materials (insulators) each one having its own particular properties. The type of material used will be determined by the designer who will take into account the environment in which a control panel or installation is expected to operate as well as the application of individual wires within the panel.

After you installed it you still don’t have spark. What happened? We will go into this common problem later in the article, but for now remember never make assumptions. Always look for evidence that suggests a cause. Evidence comes in many forms such as smoke coming from your engine, metal particles in your oil, and oil leaks from your transmission.

In the case of a wire connection, it needs to be a very good conductor. Good conductors include most metals. The most common conductor used in wire is copper, although you may come across others such as aluminium. An insulator on the other hand is a material which does not allow an electric current to flow. Rubber and most plastics are insulators.

Dashed lines are drawn between the symbols to denote which switches control specific lights or receptacles. There are quite a few symbols used to represent the devices used in home electrical wiring but some of them are very similar, so care should be used when working with them!
